Mr. Matt McNamara BSc(Hons), MBA
CIO and Fund Manager of the Manager. Matt is responsible for deal flow management and evaluation, leading all investment recommendations and due diligence. He reports to the Managing Director. He has over 23 years experience in the Healthcare & Medical Sciences sector. After initially being a Molecular Biology Research Assistant, Matt spent 11 years in Sales & Marketing, and General Management with Merck & Co. and Johnson and Johnson Medical Pty. Ltd. respectively. He has served as SVP Business Development for a University of Sydney spin out, eBioinformatics Inc. and was CEO of a Life Sciences Venture Capital fund, SciCapital Pty. Ltd.
Matt founded BioBridge Australia, a biotechnology Commercialisation Advisory, in 2004, and advised a number of private and public biotechnology/investment companies He is a Director of SciCapital Pty Ltd a private biotech investment company. Since 2008, Matt has been the Fund Manager for the IB Australian Bioscience Fund I.
Mr. Jeremy Curnock Cook BA(Hons), MA
The Managing Director of the Manager is Jeremy Curnock Cook, the former head of the life science private equity team at Rothschild Asset Management and an active investor in the Australian life science sector. As Managing Director, he is responsible for all investment recommendations to the Board of the Trustee.
At Rothschild, Mr. Curnock Cook was responsible for the launch of the first dedicated biotechnology fund for the Australian market and the launch of a joint venture with Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation for the creation of Healthcare Ventures, an investment vehicle dedicated to seed stage investments in Europe, as well as the conception and launch of the International Biotechnology Trust (IBT). IBT was launched in 1994 as a publicly listed investment trust focussed internationally on mid stage investments in Life Sciences.
Prior to joining Rothschild, Mr Curnock Cook founded the International Biochemicals Group (IBG) in 1975, and built an 80-person company focused on the development and commercialisation of products containing tailored microbial strains for application in industrial pollution control and agriculture. IBG’s clients included multinationals McDonalds and Royal Dutch Shell. Following the successful sale of IBG to Royal Dutch Shell in 1985, Mr Curnock Cook managed the integration process into Shell operations prior to being invited to join Rothschild in 1987.
Mr. Curnock Cook has served on more than 30 boards of directors in the healthcare and medical sciences sector in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Japan and Australia.

Mr Curnock Cook received his MA in Natural Sciences from Trinity College in Dublin in 1971, and was a research scientist at the Institute of Cancer Research from 1972 to 1973.
As Managing Director of IB, Mr Curnock Cook actively supports investment opportunities considered by the Manager, and their post-investment management and monitoring. He delivers an international focus by maintaining his executive and non-executive roles in the connection with the funds and companies associated with the IB Group.
The Managing Director will delegate certain investment evaluation, administrative and management duties to the Fund Manager to support the investment opportunities and their post-investment management and monitoring.
Mr. Jonathan Buckley B.Ec, ASIA
Director of the Manager and Deputy Chairman of Intersuisse Holdings Ltd, based in Melbourne. Following a strategy consulting role with KPMG he joined Rothschild Asset Management in London in the late 1990s as a senior manager. He has advised over thirty Australian life science companies and has been responsible for the development of Intersuisse Asia Pacific fund management across medical sciences, resources, and private equity.
He joined Intersuisse in Melbourne in 1997 after spending seven years in London, with KPMG Strategy Consulting, Barclays de Zoete Wedd and Rothschild Asset Management. After joining KPMG in 1987 after graduating with a Bachelor of Economics degree, Jonathan developed expertise in business planning, corporate acquisitions and divestitures, valuations, financial modelling, capital structures, due diligence and corporate actions for publicly listed companies. He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia. Jonathan has assisted on a number of global transactions, reviewing the market position, financial performance, corporate strategy and organisational structures of target companies. Corporate transactions in Australia have included trade sales, MBOs, capital raisings, mergers and IPOs.
Jonathan has overseen the corporate resource and biotech sector activity for corporate advisory projects to a significant number of resources, energy and life science companies, including: strategy consulting, information memorandum preparation, project feasibility plans, M&A, IPO and secondary fund raisings, with growing emphasis on the introduction of Asian partners/investors to Australian companies.
Dr. Darren J Grubb PhD, MBA, GDipAppFin
Investment Associate of the Manager. Darren has been in the life science sector since 1993, and commenced as a Life Science research analyst in 1999. At Austock Pty Ltd, a boutique Melbourne based broker, Darren specialised in client-focused research publications for quoted life science investment opportunities. Darren moved to the Queensland Investment Corporation, a Queensland Government Owned institutional investment manager, as a life science and healthcare analyst, focusing on both public and private companies. Upon the founding of the A$100 million Queensland BioCapital Fund, he was appointed Investment Analyst to the fund. At QBF, Darren was responsible for deal origination and investment appraisal of Australian life science companies. After which, Darren relocated to Melbourne to join Intersuisse Limited in September 2005, as a research analyst. Specialising in the life sciences and healthcare sector, responsibilities included generation of client-focused research publications, M&A deal terms and domestic and international deal origination for corporate clients. Darren joined IB Managers in 2008, dedicated to the Fund; were Darren conducts deal origination and due diligence on potential investment opportunities.
Darren completed a BSc(Hons) (Monash University), a PhD (University of Melbourne) at the Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Medicine, the Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment (FINSIA) and an MBA (Queensland University of Technology).
Dr. Nicholas Draeger PhD, MBA
Investment Director has upwards of 18 years of experience in the healthcare and finance industries. Nicholas has extensive experience in strategy, global business development and licensing, and healthcare finance. Nicholas started his career at Roche in the field of Alzheimer’s research and later was part of the Global Business Development team, specialising in M&A and licensing. At Recordati, he was Director of International Business Development. Later, Nicholas headed the Biotech sell-side research group at the French finance group, Credit Agricole Indosuez Cheuvreux, and was scientific advisor for the healthcare research team. Nicholas also has extensive experience in research, analysis, financial modelling and investing in healthcare companies, first as a member of the management team of BB Biotech and later at Adamant Biomedical Investments both in Switzerland, where he specialised in investments in Asia, Australia and South Africa, as well as venture capital on a global basis. Nicholas was a Senior Research Scientists in health economics at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. Nicholas is also a Founder and Managing Director of Cederberg Advisors GmbH in Switzerland; and Founder and Director of Algae Biotechnology Products Limited in the UK. Nicholas is currently an advisor to the government-sponsored Innovation Fund in South Africa. Nicholas holds a Bsc (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa, a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, in Biochemical Engineering, and a MBA from the University of Warwick, UK.
Dr. Stewart Washer BSc (Hons), PhD

Stewart has more than 20 years experience in the sector. Stewarts experience in the life science sector includes, rasing seed capital and completing the successful IPO for Phylogic Ltd on the Australian Stock Exchange, as the founding CEO. Managing the commercialisation of intellectual property from AgResearch in New Zealand with 650 scientists and A$130m revenues as the CEO of Celentis. Stewart foundered a number of successful technology companies, generating over A$30 milion in product revenue, and completed a number of successful trade sales. In addition, he has been a managing executive and techical team leader in the agrifood, industrial and environmental sectors. In the investment sector, he is assisting BioPacific Ventures, a NZ$120 life science fund.
Stewart is currently CEO of Calzada Ltd (ASX:CZD), a Director of Genesis R&D Ltd (ASX:GEN), Healthlinx Ltd (ASX:HTX) and AusBiotech Ltd; as well as a Senator of Murdoch University and a Venture Partner with the €1.5 billion Swiss Inventages Fund.
Dr. Nora Frey PhD
Chairman of the Investment Committee. Nora brings more than 15 years of professional experience in the healthcare research and investment field. She studied modern biology (microbiology, biochemistry) and economics in Basel and holds a masters degree in Microbiology and a PhD in Biochemistry in the field of drug-induced autoimmune diseases from the University of Basel. She was partner at Bellevue Group, Zug, Switzerland and part of the BB Biotech management team managing up to CHF 4 bn in public and private biotech investments. In 2000 she conceived of, and founded Adamant Biomedical Investments AG in Basel, Switzerland, a successful healthcare asset management boutique, which manages different healthcare funds. As CIO, Nora headed research and portfolio management, and led the innovation and expansion of the range of funds under management. During this time, the funds under management grew from CHF 50 mn to approx. CHF 1 bn. In addition, to research and fund management experience, Nora’s roles included advising numerous companies, and collaboration with SWX and ZKB’s Corporate Finance group regarding listings of foreign companies in Switzerland.
Among several other awards, Nora was voted finalist in the Ernst &Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Switzerland. During Nora’s time at Adamant Nora managed the inception of the company and the collaboration with SwissLife, co-managed the Management Buy-Out and later the sale of the company to Zürich Kantonal Bank, ZKB. She was also responsible for the establishment of a subsidiary of Adamant, Adamant Ventures Ltd., in Edinburgh, UK, that focused on venture capital investing. Towards the end of 2008, Nora left Adamant to found Cederberg Advisors. Nora is a citizen of Germany and Switzerland.
